Hold the bottled tap water please
It’s my favorite restaurant of the fast-food chains. And this particular chain prides itself of it’s healthy sub selection. But there’s one thing I don’t care for, which makes them like all other restaurants. “Will that be a meal?” This is of course because chips and a drink are very profitable. But sodas are unhealthy and chips are very overpriced, so I just get the water (and the sandwich is big enough without any other food). I have to of course specifically say “tap water.” I don’t want the bottled water, which is also very overpriced. After all, the soda, which most people get, is from tap water.
Why do so many buy bottled water at all, when many studies show it’s often the same as what we drink out of the faucet? Think of the massive amounts of resources spent transporting various liquids for our enjoyment when we could be drinking very close to the same for 10,000 times less the cost. Transportation and packaging are only part of the cost as plastic bottles take many years to disintegrate and carbon emissions hurt the environment.
So next time you go to your favorite restaurant, you can help reduce pollution and use of precious resources by making a few changes to your eating habits. And think of the money you would save by just passing on the bottled tap water.
